We are off to Vermont and beautiful Lake Champlain for the holiday weekend. The image above is the ferry ( The Valcour) that I worked on for 5 summers in my youth. Quite the prestigious summer gig at the time selling hot dogs and souvenirs to the customers crossing from Burlington Vermont to Port Kent New York. Six days a week, three crossings a day ( it certainly taught you to be on time for work..if you missed the boat you were 2 hours and 10 minutes late!) and a whopping $1.40 per hour. The mountains in the background are the majestic Adirondacks in New York.

See you when I get back.

  3. Sounds like the perfect holiday weekend! We have company coming for the weekend, then it will be back to packing, painting and moving!

When I was in HS I work at a concession stand at a lake, making hotdogs, cotton candy and renting canoes....good memories.

  5. Our dear friends moved to Burlington just last year and they were back here in FL for a visit about a week ago....ooohhhh, I do envy them! They are pressing us for a Fall visit...wouldn't that be neat??

Have a wonderful time...wish we were there!

    Happy Weekend....Cassie

  6. During Summer school holidays I actually sold hot dogs too - for about a week because I hated the way it made my clothes smell!! Instead I worked in a dairy shop, holidays and Saturdays - I sold Devonshire clotted cream - loved that job, and I got to lick the bowl at the end of the day!!

    Hope you've had fun Janet.
