FASHIONS.. 1977 STYLE

A friend of mine sent me these photos from a 1977 J C Penneys Catalog. There were captions, but I wasn't able to capture them, so I made up my own. But, I think the outfits easily speak for themselves!!!

My Dad, bless his heart, still has a version of this jacket. You just can't kill polyester!

Guy on the left is getting ready to go to the Disco ( with Penny???). Gotta love the combination of the high belt and the chest hair. The guy on the right is going to a St. Patrick's Day wedding. He will get his green carnation boutinierre ( can't seem to spell that word ) at the door of the church. Green beer will be served at the reception.

Anyone up for a Hoedown?

First example of his and hers fashions. They are meeting the guy in the blue get-up at the hoedown. HeeeHaw!!

Variation on a theme. Will you look at her waist? Makes Miz Scarlett look chunky!

Matching bathingsuits..the epitome of commitment. She certainly looks appreciative...maybe it is their honeymoon on a tropical island ;)

Do you have any idea where they would wear these perky outfits?? Hopefully none of us had these outfits.

Later,
Janet

  2. So cool!
I love to tease my brother about the years that Mom made him wear plaid pants... then one day we were watching old slides of my husband's family...there at Disneyworld was my husband, about 12, in those terrible plaid pants.
    It was epidemic!
    Ha!

  3. So Funny! What were we thinking? I keep all my actual photos of myself during those "fashion trend" times under lock and key! HA!

  8. I'm just cracking up over this post Janet - it brings back memories which means I'm definitely old!! My dh wore a pair of blue and white striped very textured seersucker pants on a trip to my home in England (must have been in the 70's)and my Mum's next door neighbor asked he was a butcher!!! (He was actually an insurance adjuster at that period in time).

When I look at myself with the beehive hairdo, the mini skirts(very mini but I had good legs thank God - but infortunately big boobs so I must have looked top heavy!) I cringe to think my grandchildren will one day dig them out of those cardboard boxes (well isn't that where yours are?)and laugh so much at their funny looking grandparents - God rest their souls!!

  11. Hey Janet,
My first post to your blog! Short term memory not what it used to be - did I ever give you the "vintage" appliances brochure? Hello to Janet's "blog sisters"! I am one of her Realtor gal pals (not the young, thin, beautiful one ;-)

  16. Although we might want to erase these clothes from our memories, have you looked at a teen magazine lately? May not be too far away! Yikes! I'm not going to bring out my old clothes. Well, not today.

  17. Too funny...what really scares me though is that some men of a certain age (maybe it's the midwest thing) have embraced this image...yikes! I'm having a great vacation...it's slowing winding down though and that makes me sad :-(

  19. LOL! I have also received this email and it was hysterical. I was a kid growing up during these years but I remember looking at some of this stuff in the catalogs!!! I think my Dad had some suits similar to those green ones....ewwwwww!

Thanks for the funny post. And I just found out I missed the whole drawing for "VINTAGE VAVOOM!" I was at the bookstore last week pricing it...35.00 at Borders!!!

I may have to join the bookclub just so I can get a copy of my own.

By the way, I am also having a giveaway...the last day is Sunday the 27th.

  21. GREAT post! My mother's first pant suit was orange! Yes, I remember these styles all too well. Remember Dittos and Angel Flights? Seems like yesterday!

Ok, what is the girl in the swimsuit looking at? hmmmmmm......

    Thanks for the flashbacks!

  22. Is this a step back or what??? I am turning 50 this Tuesday and my nostalgia in in overdrive!!! I love the aging humor, too! It's too true! Our perceptions can be so warped!

  23. Good luck with the home showing! The joke cracked me up because I went to a new dentist and after talking with him we discovered we were in the same high school class as well. I was hoping he did not remember me because I was a bit of a rebel!
