STORM WATCH

Okay, I know when snow is forecast people head to the grocery store, but this is insane. Eight to ten inches forecast, not eight to ten FEET, for crying out loud. Sunday is my usual grocery day because for some strange reason Bob likes to go with me. I knew it might be busy, but thought the Colts Chargers game ( that determines who New England plays next week) might keep some people glued to the tube. Wrong. I have never seen so many people, worse than the day before Thanksgiving. I was tempted to turn around and leave because I can just go on Tuesday instead, but I stuck it out. Usually when snow is forecast the milk and bread are decimated. But this time for some reason all the Worcestershire sauce was gone. I hope I get invited to all the Bloody Mary parties tomorrow! I can't think why else there would be a run on Worcestershire sauce. ( I buy it about every two years and was happy to remember that I needed it).

I am ecstatic about the response to my giveaway on Tuesday. I am trying to visit each newcomer personally and check out their blog. There are some great ones that I am not familiar with, yet, and I can see I will be adding to my daily reading list. Thanks everyone for coming by and for all the referrals too. Melissa at The Inspired Room is leading the pack in referrals right now, but it is not too late to catch up!!

Later,
Janet

  2. Wow,

Worcestershire sauce. I just made a big pot of French Onion soup and added some to it, but not sure why there would be a run on it!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving such a lovely comment. Congratulations on the new kitty!

    Happy birthday!

  3. Isn't it crazy what people buy when bad weather is forecast! Please and inch of snow here drives everyone to the store for bread and milk. Which I don't get cause when we have ice storms or too much snow we loose power. So what's the use of the milk?

  6. Hey, I heard it's your birthday, so...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

And the grocery store. We were expecting 1-3" in this area (we got a dusting, btw). I don't usually shop on Sunday, but I felt like getting out of the house in the evening. By then, most Sunday shoppers are gone, anyway. Well...ho-lee cow...I could'nt believe how EMPTY some of the shelves were. There were about 3 boxes of Barilla Pasta left. It was on sale, but I've never seen them wiped out so fast. The funny thing is that there was milk available. I'm not sure how that happened, LOL!
I'm just glad I didn't go earlier in the day. It must have been a nuthouse. I feel very sorry for cashiers on days like that.
And this morning, my husband took my car to gas it up for me...and had to hit 3 stations before he could find regular gas. Geesh.

  7. Janet, we always used to joke that my mother never went for wonderbread and milk, but for italian bread and salami! If you're going to panic, at least buy something yummy!

  9. If you find that bloody Mary party, I'm in. We had snow last night but there was not that much accumulation. Of course, people still raced to the store. Not me....I just pulled out a frozen vegetable lasagna that we ate between games. I'm out of milk but I think we'll live.

  10. Janet, down here if the weather guy only calls for 2 inches of snow there's a run on the grocery store. Never have understood the reasoning behind the bread and milk disappearing...but the worchestershire....LOL...I cracked up at what you said about all the Bloody Mary parties going on. LOL....LOL

  11. Janet, we have the same response here for even an inch of snow. :) People buy like they're going to be snowed in for a month.

I've missed so much this week! I wanted to wish you a belated Happy Birthday, and also thank you for the award...you are very kind, and a dear friend!

    xo,

    Andrea

  12. Hi Janet. Hope you don't get too much snow. We moved from Canada to PA and the first time there was a forecast of snow I couldn't believe the panic there was at the grocery store. It's like people were stocking up for a month!
A worcestershire sauce story: Our son moved to London and they were making a caesar salad using my husband's recipe which calls for worcestershire sauce. So they called us from the grocery store in England to ask us where they would find the worcestershire!
I always enjoy reading your blog. Rhondi
