POST-EASTER PARADE (BONNETS OPTIONAL)

picture from an unknown source

Driving home from work Monday on a well traveled back road all traffic was stopped. From the time I stopped I counted 42 turkeys crossing the street. If you have never seen wild turkeys, let me tell you that they didn't get the memo that they are NOT the National Bird. They cross very slowly, single file ( no talking) like a grade school fire drill. About halfway thru, Turkey #21 or thereabouts must have taken exception to a driver glaring at him. He stopped and very deliberately spread his feathers, did a complete turn, lowered his feathers and continued across the street. Very funny! This area of the street used to have a turkey farm on it many years ago, there are still some turkey lean-tos on the wooded property and I often see the birds crossing or eating on someone's lawn, but I have never witnessed a parade of this length! I wish I had had my camera, but I'm sure someone would have honked at me to get out of the street. Turkeys are acceptable, Realtors are not :>)

Later,
Janet

  1. What a wonderful story. We used to frequently have families of ducks crossing the streets. They were so cute with the momma duck and all her babies.

I don't believe I have ever seen a wild turkey.

  2. You've got the turkey tale down just right. Fortunately, we don't have too many places where they feel as if they can cross the road, but they sure are having fun at the backyard birdfeeders these days.

What an excellent job you did of not mentioning that white, wet stuff!

  12. Hi Janet~
You are so funny..i confess, i love to peep into houses at twilight too!!!
Also, Your comments on the turkeys is so funny...the ones around here can be nasty, stopping and hissing at the slightest interference in there trots.. I am afraid of the unpredictable little buggers!
Hope the weather is sunny and warm where you are...beautiful day here.
    Have a great day!

  13. Out on a weekend blog hop and found your blog. I have wild turkeys in my backyard. I live in the suburbs of a big city for goodness sake! So strange.

I see you're going to California and going to see Wicked. I saw it this winter, it was fabulous! Hope you enjoy it.
